Travel with the Schulmans
Join us as we explore the world we live in...
Old Sarum - site of an ancient temple, a Roman Castle, the first Cathedral - on the heights of the Salisbury Plain overlooking the beautiful British countryside, the city of Salisbury and Salisbury Cathedral...
We walk the ruins trying to imagine the castle as it was...
Looking north over the Salisbury Plain....
...and south to Salisbury with the Cathedral spire seen rising above the town!
Moving south from Old Sarum we visit the classic grace and beauty of
Salisbury Cathedral
The length of the Cathedral
Across the transept looking up to the dome
The High Altar
The windows are dedicated to prisoners of conscience
Statues, chapels, tombs and monuments
Salisbury Cathedral is filled with works of art and reverence
The Cathedral Cloisters are a place of serenity, natural beauty and a delightful sense of harmony
Next we move north along the ever-present River Avon to the site of the ancient standing stones of
Stonehenge
where our guide, Chris, explains the history of the Henge
As we circle the henge, we are awed by the size and precision of the stones, and wonder how it could have been possible for those early men to accomplish their moving, dressing and placement.
Dick listens to the informative tape that guides us and retells the Henge's history and structure
Finally we drive to the little town of
AVEBURY
home of the largest field of Standing Stones in Brittain.
A huge circle of Stones, much bigger than Stonehenge, though less structured. Sitting in several open fields on both sides of the road bordered by pretty country cottages, they seem to be ageless and and unchanging as sheep graze and children play in their shadow.
The Red Lion - wet your whistle after walking the stones!
Loved the sheep that wander amongst the stones and rest in flocks under the trees - but be careful where you walk! :-)
